Mercedes and Audi announced the sales figures for 2015. With 1,871,511 vehicles sold, Mercedes sales has an advance of more than 68,000 cars up against Audi which sold 1,803,250 vehicles. BMW does not communicate yet the figures for 2015.
2015 is the best year for Mercedes and the fifth record year in a row. Mercedes delivered 1,871,511 cars to customers, which represent an increase of 13.4%. Furthermore, the year 2015 ended for Mercedes with its strongest selling December (178,017 units, +9.1%) and best quarter (495,159 units, +8.8%).
Audi achieved a new sales record in 2015. Compared with 2014, worldwide deliveries increased by 3.6% to 1,803,250 vehicles. 158,450 cars (+5.6%) were sold in December.
In Europe, Audi sold 799,950 units (+4.8%) compared with 798,852 units (+10.5%) sold by Mercedes.
Audi is also very strong in China, where is the leader of the premium car market with 570,889 (-1.4%) units sold in 2015. Mercedes achieved also a very good result in China, which is the biggest individual market for Mercedes (373,459 units, +32.6%). Mercedes recorded an exceptional result in the Asia-Pacific region with 615,325 units sold, which represent an increase of 25.2%.
Despite Audi achieved the best ever result in USA with more than 200,000 cars sold for the first time in a year, Mercedes posted a much better result with 343,088 cars.
By models, Mercedes overpassed the initial target of 500,000 units for its new compact range. 582,531 compact models based on the new MFA platform (A, B, CLA, CLA Shooting Brake, GLA) were sold in 2015.
The best selling model in Mercedes range is the C-Class with 443,909 units (+40.1%). Since December 2015, the C-Class range was completed with the new C-Class Coupe.
232,453 units of E-Class were sold in 2015 and of the most popular version is the long wheelbase E-Class sold in 58,286 units on the Chinese market.
Mercedes recorded the best ever result also in the SUV segment with 525,866 vehicles (+26.6%). The top sellers were GLC and GLA.
In its first full year on the market, units sales of the new V-Class increased by 26.2% to 31,499 units.
With the new line AMG Sport Line models, the AMG sales have more than doubled in the past two years. 68,875 units were sold in 2015 and the strongest markets for AMG are Germany, USA and China.
Smart sales were increased at 119,398 units (+32.9%). Together with smart, Mercedes sold 1,990,909 units in 2015.
Audi sold even more SUVs from the Q range than Mercedes with 537,950 units.
A3 model range achieved 372,750 units (+20.2%) while Audi TT is the best selling compact sports car in the premium market with 29,950 units (+87.0%).
With 32,119 models sold, Audi A3 Sedan is the most popular compact sedan in the US premium market.
