Mercedes will present a very special version of the G500 4×4² at the Geneva motor show in spring 2017. Mercedes G 500 4X4² Landaulet is the everyman’s Popemobile we’ve always dreamed about seeing on the streets one day.
Falsely called a pickup, the cabrio off-roader revives the tradition of turning luxury models such as the Maybach or the Mercedes 230 into Landaulet cabrios. An extreme off-roader must nowadays be used. With the Mercedes G 500 4×4² Mercedes is likely to have targeted primarily well-heeled customers in the American, Russian or Arab markets.
Under the hood of the Mercedes G 500 4×4² Landaulet remains well-known technology: The four-liter Biturbo-V8 known from the Mercedes-AMG, the power of which is transmitted by the 7G-Tronic automatic gearbox to all four wheels. Three differentials, one at the front, one at the rear and one central, direct the torque of more than 600 Nm to the wheels depending on the driving situation and activated locks.
The G 500 is equipped with 18-inch wheels or 22-inch rims. It is unclear whether the Mercedes G 500 4×4² Landaulet will get the more powerful V8 from the latest AMG GT GT.
