Mercedes G-Class Caracal: For Special Forces

At the largest military fair in the world, Eurosatory in Paris, Mercedes presented a G-Class equipped for special forces. His name: Mercedes G-Class Caracal.

It is known that the military version of the G-Class is part of the endowment of many armies of the world. No less than 47 countries use the Mercedes G-Class for military purposes, such as Argentina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Egypt, Denmark, France, Germany, the United Kingdom, Slovenia, Slovakia, Poland and Russia.

Rheinmetall AG presented on June 13-17, 2022 at Eurosatory, the largest military fair in the world, the Mercedes G-Class Caracal model. Caracal is the name of a medium-sized African wild cat and wants to suggest that this Mercedes is fast and can move in full control on any surface.

The model is made in partnership with Mercedes and ACS (Armored Car Systems) and has been adapted to the requirements of platforms for airborne or special operations units.

The new family of airborne Caracal vehicles is based on the latest generation G-Class for rescue and special operations. The G-Class Caracal weighs 4900 kg (10,802 lbs), and can be equipped with protection elements. for countering ballistic and landmine threats. It can also used as a basic troop carrier, medical support vehicle or supply vehicle. It can also be equipped with anti-tank weapons and if necessary the windshield can be removed.

With its compact size, it is possible to transport two G-Class Caracals in CH-53K King Stallion or CH-47F Chinook helicopters.

Under the hood works a 6-cylinder diesel engine that develops 249 HP (252 PS)  and meets Euro 3 standards. The maximum speed is 140 km/h (87 mph). Mercedes G-Class Caracal will go into production in 2023 and will be available with long and short wheelbase. The German military will soon receive 60 heavy Chinook helicopters that are ideal for transporting G-Class Caracal, increasing mobility in conflict areas.

Under the motto Move-Sense-Strike, Rheinmetall presented at Eurosatory a part of its comprehensive range of products on an exhibition area of 3,000 square metres.
