Mercedes gears up for the launch of the most luxurious zero emissions vehicle in its range, the Mercedes-EQS, with the luxury electric sedan now starting its winter testing program. Latest spy pictures.
In the next few years, Mercedes-Benz will be fully committed to the electrification of its range. After the EQC and EQV, two more electric cars are on the agenda in the short term: the EQB and the EQS.
The former does not get a completely different body, because the design of the camouflaged prototypes seen so far clearly relies so far strongly on that of the GLB. But, the story is very different for the Mercedes-EQS, because the electric top limousine does get its own design.
At the IAA 2018 in Frankfurt, Mercedes gave with the Vision EQS concept a clear styling preview of the final production model. The spy images clearly show that Mercedes is sticking to the design outlined there.
The fairly convex shapes are retained, just like the large (closed!) grille that returns for series production. We do not expect the 229 illuminated stars that acted as rear lights in the concept car in the production-ready EQS, though.
The electric motors in the Vision EQS were good for 476 hp. The German concept car was able to travel 700 km on clean electricity alone with 80 percent of its battery refilled from a fast charger within 20 minutes. On an autonomous level, the Mercedes Vision EQS reaches level 3. Expect the final production car in 2021 on the road.
