We never get tired of drag race shoot-outs and luckly, the guys over at Auto Express are doing their best to keep us satisfied. Here’s their latest drag strip battle: Mercedes-Benz E63 AMG against the BMW M5.
Since they never go out of imagination, the guys from Auto Express prepared a new classic German battle, t his time between two performance models which need no introduction: the BMW M5 and the Mercedes E63 AMG S Estate.
The question which ignited this slightly unusual head-to-head race is a simple one: which practical family car is the fastest on the drag strip? So, let’s see what the aforementioned models are capable of.
On paper, the BMW M5 uses a 4.4-litre bi-turbo V8 which produces 560 hp managed by a seven-speed dual clutch transmission. Its counterpart, the Mercedes-Benz E63 AMG S Estate packs 585 hp coming from a 5.5-litre bi-turbo V8, sent to the wheels via a seven speed automatic gearbox.
You can see the whole race in the video below, but we must say that the M5 completed the 1,800 m course in 27.45 seconds, while the E63 AMG needed 28.37 seconds.
