Fashion parades on the catwalk, eyewear for both sight and sun, speed boats in the ocean, restaurants in the most exquisite locations and now… an Ice Monster! Mercedes-Benz partners up with the famous Taiwanese ice cream shop to open a new café in Tokyo and to give everyone a break from the heat.
It’s hot. Terribly hot. Unbearably hot. And only half-way through the summer. Our temperatures rise up to 40 degrees Celsius (104 Fahrenheit) and we’re desperately looking for some shade or for air conditioned spaces. Ok, it’s all right in the office, at home, in the car. But what if you need to wander around? Well, Mercedes-Benz came up with this: entering the blazing hot market of shaved ice, partnering up with Ice Monster.
The Taiwanese shop Ice Monster has been a major hit in Japan, since its opening in Harajuku, Tokyo, back in April. Even though the store is opened until 10 p.m, people line up for long queues, even waiting for five hours (!) to get a monster of their own. But now customers can cut that waiting list in half, since a new ice cream store popped up in Roppongi, Tokyo, right at the Mercedes-Benz Connection gallery near Metro Chiyoda Line Nogizaka Station.
Sponsored by Mercedes-Benz, the café offers the gigantic ice cream portions topped with exotic fruits and liquors. The most popular flavors are Mango for ¥1,500 (about $1,5), Coffee for ¥1,200 (about $1,2) or milk tea with tapioca pearls for ¥1,700 (about $1,7). The shaved ice monsters are always accompanied by the Mercedes-Benz logos made of white chocolate.
This could be just a marketing move to lure possible customers into testing and eventually buying a Mercedes-Benz, for all we know. But so far, it just turned into the best date spot in Tokyo. And we’ll tell you what: ice cream in the hot summer days would convince anyone to do just about anything.
