Mercedes-Benz has released full pricing details for the new GLE. The restyled SUV can be ordered right away, with the first cars expected to arrive at the dealerships in August. All prices are for the German market.
The Mercedes-Benz GLE will be available with a choice of two diesel engines, four petrol variants and one plug-in hybrid version. Compared with its predecessor, the new GLE starts at similar prices but with an enhanced level of equipment.
In the diesel department, the GLE 250 d is the entry-level model in the GLE range, powered by a 4-cylinder 2.1-liter engine delivering 204 hp (150 kW). Rear-wheel drive is standard, instead of the ubiquitous 4Matic, a first for the GLE family. For this version, Mercedes-Benz set a starting price of 53,966 euros, including VAT. The GLE 250 d 4Matic gets all-wheel-drive as standard for 56,703 euros, which translates to a 2.737 euros premium. All diesel models come with the brand-new 9G-TRONIC nine-speed automatic transmission.
Above the GLE 250 d and GLE 250 d, GLE clients can get the classic GLE 350 d 4Matic 3-liter variant, good for 258 hp (190 kW). For this model, they should dig in their pockets for no less than 60,749 euros.
Regarding the petrol choices, Mercedes-Benz is offering the the GLE 400 4Matic packing 333 hp (245 kW) for a starting price of 60,928 euros, followed by the GLE 500 4Matic with 435 hp (320 kW), priced at 76,874 euros, and two performance versions – the Mercedes-AMG GLE 63 4MATIC with 557 hp (410 kW) for 111,384 euros and the Mercedes-AMG GLE 63 S 4MATIC with 585 hp (430 kW) rated at 121,261 euros.
For the first time in its SUV history, Mercedes-Benz offers a plug‑in hybrid model, the GLE 500 e 4MATIC, available from 73,899 euros. A 328hp (333PS) 3.0-liter twin-turbocharged V6 engine is matted to a 114hp (116PS) electric motor for a combined output of 445 hp (325 kW) and 650Nm.
Across the available engine range, fuel consumption and CO2 emissions are reduced by 17 percent on average compared with the preceding series.
Design-wise, the new GLE features familiar styling cues inherited from the recently launched GLE Coupé. These include more aggressive front-end styling with brand-new bumper, engine bonnet, grille and LED lights at both ends. Roof rails are now standard while the rear bumper sees dual integrated exhausts. Mercedes has also given its GLE SUV a thorough make-up to its interior. Biggest news are the 7.0-inch free-standing infotainment screen with touch-sensitive controller, mounted on the centre console, the same system already in use across the range.
All models have a more generous specification at around the same price level as before. Standard equipment for the new GLE has been enhanced with new assistance systems such as Crosswind Assist and COLLISION PREVENTION ASSIST PLUS, an ECO start/stop function, the DYNAMIC SELECT controller on the centre console, the revised multifunction steering wheel as well as the Audio 20 CD infotainment system with new, semi-integrated media display and communications module for the use of Mercedes connect me services.
As expected, Mercedes is also offering an extensive range of optional equipment packages. The Driving Assistance package Plus includes DISTRONIC PLUS with Steering Assist and Stop&Go Pilot, PRE-SAFE® Brake with pedestrian detection, BAS PLUS with Cross-Traffic Assist, Active Blind Spot Assist, Active Lane Keeping Assist and PRE-SAFE® PLUS. The Parking package with 360° camera and Active Parking Assist with PARKTRONIC guarantees an excellent overview and problem-free manoeuvring into and out of parking spaces.
According to Mercedes-Benz, the GLE is also available with either of the two equipment lines Urban and AMG Line. Opt for the AMG Line and you will receive front and rear aprons in the distinctive AMG bodystyling and 50.8-cm (20-inch) AMG alloy wheels, sports seats in ARTICO man-made leather / DINAMICA microfibre, a multifunction sports steering wheel in Nappa leather. The Night package features high-gloss black for the radiator grille louvres, exterior mirror housings and window weatherstrips.
Customers with the AMG model also have the opportunity to personalise their vehicle with components from the AMG Performance Studio. The choice ranges from a carbon-fibre engine cover or various alloy wheels to the Performance steering wheel and the Performance exhaust system with its emphasis on sporty sound.
