The Mercedes-Benz GenH2 fuel-cell concept truck promises a range of up to 1,000 kilometers with a single tank of hydrogen. These are figures comparable with those of a conventional diesel truck. Two special liquid-hydrogen tanks and a powerful fuel-cell system will provide the impressive range parameters. The series production version will have a gross vehicle weight of 40 tons and a payload of 25 tons.

Daimler Trucks prefers the solution of the liquid hydrogen as the energy carrier has a far higher energy density in relation to volume than the gaseous hydrogen does. Therefore, the stainless-steel tanks of a fuel-cell truck, with a storage capacity of 80 kilograms, using liquid hydrogen cover less space and are much lighter. They thus allow a larger cargo space and a higher payload weight.

Mercedes-Benz GenH2 Truck – How much power?

The fuel system will be able to supply 2 x 150 kilowatts, while the battery pack will supply an additional 400 kW for a limited period of time.

A sophisticated cooling and heating system will keep all components at the ideal operating temperature. The fuel-cell concept truck benefits from the assistance of two electric motors that provide 2 x 230 kW continuous power and 2 x 330 kW maximum power. The peak torque is of 2 x 15577 Nm and 2 x 2071 Nm, respectively.
