Ralph Illenberger, director of the Mercedes-AMG engine development department, offers some interesting information about the all-new M 139 engine. The 2.0-liter 4-cylinder turbo 421 hp engine developed by Mercedes-AMG could have even more powerful versions.
At the end of last week, Mercedes-AMG published the technical details of the new 4-cylinder 2.0-liter turbo engine (M 139). The unit would debut on the new generation Mercedes-AMG A 45, and the top-of-the-range version will offer 421 horsepower at 6,750 rpm and 500 Nm between 5,000 and 5,250 rpm.
According to Ralph Illenberger’s statements, the petrol unit has not yet reached its maximum performance potential and there are still elements that can be improved, a sign that in the near future we may see a variant with even more power resources.
Also, the Mercedes-AMG official says engine development has been a major challenge given that the propeller will be introduced into series models and will not be used exclusively on versions for competitions. “We will see what the future holds,” the Mercedes-AMG official added.
The new Mercedes-AMG A 45 will be presented for the first time at the Frankfurt Motor Show this autumn. Subsequently, the new 2.0-liter turbo engine will be offered on other compact-class models.
