The long-awaited Mercedes-AMG GT Black Series proved its capability lapping the Hockenheim racetrack. Figures show that the three-pointed star model is faster than the McLaren 720S and Ferrari Pista.

Future owners now know exactly why they pay over 335,000 Euros for this car. It is not just the Black Series special logo and enhanced aerodynamics tweaks that they get. There is a speed that puts the Mercedes-AMG supercar among the world’s fastest.

It seems that the Mercedes-AMG GT Black Series is worth the over one-decade wait together with the money asked for it. The 4.0-liter V8 delivers 730 horsepower and 800 Nm of torque, making the car rocket from a standstill to 100 km/h (62 mph) in just 3.2 seconds. It only takes 9 seconds to go all the way to 200 km/h (124 mph).

Everything may look breath-taking on paper, but it looks even more thrilling on the race track. A pro race car driver, Christian Gebhardt, jumped behind the steering wheel to put the model through its paces at the Hockeheim circuit.

The video complements the aggressive black-and-orange silhouette of the Black Series and provides info on the technical specification, tire setup included. Therefore the car runs on Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 R mixed tires. Following several corners and straights on the race track,  all that the viewers get is the recording of the onboard camera, focusing on the driver and the tarmac of Hockenheim.

The Mercedes-AMG GT Black Series, faster than supercars by tradition

The pro driver needs 1.43:3 minutes for a fast lap, which makes the GT Black Series slightly faster than the McLaren 720S. The Brit took 1.45:50, being 2.2 seconds slower. Meanwhile, the McLaren Senna remains 2.5 seconds faster than the AMG. Close call, wasn’t it?

The all-new Mercedes-AMG GT Black Series proves to be faster than the Ferrari Pista as well. The Italian supercar needed 1:45.90 to circle the famous German circuit.
