Mercedes-Benz has finally scored a Ringrecord. The Mercedes-AMG GT 63 S 4Matic + 4-Door Coupe, the most powerful version of the AMG GT 4-Door Coupe, is the fastest four-seat production car on the Nurburgring – Nordschleife.
The record lap time clocked at 7 minutes and 25.41 seconds. Behind the wheel of the Mercedes-AMG GT 63 S 4-Door Coupe was none other than Demian Schaffert, Development Chief Engineer of Mercedes-AMG. To put the lap time in perspective: the Mercedes-AMG SLS AMG Black Series lapped the same German circuit in 7.25,67 minutes, back in August 2013 while the Porsche Panamera opponent from Sindelfingen has completed the almost 21 kilometer long and 154 curve circuit in 7.25,41 minutes.
A small but not insignificant side note to this record: last year, Jaguar drove the XE Project 8, also a four-seater, in 7.21,23 minutes on the Nürburgring-Nordschleife. The difference lies in the fact that the Project 8 is an extreme version of the XE limited to 300 copies, while the Mercedes-AMG GT 63 S 4-Door Coupe is a car without such a production limit.
Under the hood of the range-topping Mercedes-AMG GT 4-Door Coupe lies a 4.0-liter V8, which delivers no less than 640 hp and 900 Nm thanks to two turbochargers. The car goes to 100 km / h in 3.2 seconds. The top speed? 315 km / h. Heavy figures, especially when you consider that the car in almost every guise weights about 2,000 kilograms.
