Mercedes-AMG SLC 43 vs Porsche Boxster
Close to 60,000 euros costs of the new Mercedes-AMG SLC 43, with around 13,000 euro less than the old SLK 55 AMG. Instead of the natural aspirated V8 engine with 421 HP, we found under the hood the new bi-turbo 3 liter V6 with 367 HP. Some regrets? No, because the acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h is 4.7 seconds, only 0.1 sec less than in the old V8. And the new bi-turbo V6 has standard a fascinating AMG exhaust sound with two flaps which can be adjust from the Dynamic Select button. Five modes are available: Eco, Comfort, Sport, Sport+ and Individual. The now called SLC has also a new 9 speed automatic gearbox and an optional adaptive sports suspension AMG Ride Control with Sport and Comfort modes. The interior features a new instrument cluster with a new 4.5 inch display, the new standard Audio 20 CD multimedia system with 7 inch display, aluminium insets on the center tunnel and central console and a new gearbox selector, small and chic. The rigid roof can be opened up to 40 km/h and is available with the magic Sky Control option which make it transparent or opaque at a simple push of a button.
So many parameters cannot be adjust in the new Porsche 718 Boxster S. The Sport Chrono Package can be adjusted via the programme switch on the steering wheel. Supplementing the previous settings of “Normal”, “Sport” and “Sport Plus” is the “Individual” programme, which is able to call up previously programmed individual settings for various systems. From a button in the central console can be adjust also the new PASM (Porsche Active Suspension Management) between Sport and Comfort.
The interior features the new PCM (Porsche Communication Management) as standard, new 375 mm steering wheel in the style of 918 Spyder and new materials. Instead of 6 cylinder boxer engine, Porsche went for a radical downsize operation and offers only 4 cylinder boxer engines. The 2.5 liter engine in Boxster S delivers 350 HP and is mated standard with 6 speed manual gearbox. With the PDK gearbox the roadster with textile roof accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in only 4.2 seconds, and reach a top speed of 285 km/h.
The fight is at high level. Mercedes has some more power but is 200 kg more heavy than the Porsche which is a little faster. But in therms of sound, Mercedes makes the music.
