Mercedes-AMG GT vs Porsche 911 Carrera S
The former SLS AMG was too expensive and heavy with its spectacular gullwing doors. The new Mercedes-AMG GT uses the same basis but is lighter and more aggressive. The classic transaxle coupe with the new 4.0 liter bi-turbo V8 engine is available in the 462 HP/600 Nm AMG GT version and in 510 HP/650 Nm AMG GT S version.
The basic AMG GT goes directly against the traditional rival Porsche 911 Carrera S with 420 HP and 500 Nm. While AMG GT engine is mated standard with 7 speed double clutch gearbox, 911 come from factory with a 7 speed manual gearbox and the 7 speed PDK gearbox is in option. Despite an advantage of a weight of almost 150 kg, the facelifted 911 Carrera S is not faster in acceleration but is faster on the track thanks to the integral steering and active suspension. The 42 HP more powerful Mercedes engine is more thirsty.
Mercedes is more spectacular to drive but Porsche is more comfortable and a better car for day by day use.
