Mercedes brought to Geneva a very special version of the G-Class. The Mercedes-Maybach G 650 Landaulet is built in only 99 copies and breaks all records with a price of almost 750,000 euros. LIVE REPORT FROM THE SHOW FLOOR.
In the tradition of turning luxury models like the Maybach or the Mercedes 230 into Landaulet subcabrios, an extreme off-roader was a must nowadays. And what is better than to link the extreme off-roader G-Class with the luxury brand Maybach. The result is a model with a 6.0-liter V12 biturbo, good for 630 hp as well as 1,000 Nm of torque, and is based on the G500 4×4².
Particularly made for well-heeled customers in the American, Russian or Arab markets, the Mercedes-Maybach G 650 Landaulet remains a real G-Wagon with portal axles, 450 millimeters of ground clearance, 100% lockable differentials.
5.345 millimeters in length, 3.428 millimeters of wheelbase, and a height of 2,235 millimeters in height, should give a floor space of half a meter for the four passengers to travel comfortably. Driver and passenger sit under the closed fixed roof, the two rear passengers can open the convertible top at the push of a button. In addition, a glass partition wall allows the chauffeur to be locked out at the front. The wall is also transparent on touch pressure.
Anyone sitting in the rear of the Mercedes-Maybach G 650 Landaulet can enjoy massage couch-leather seats with calf support and thanks to the 578 millimeter extended wheelbase, a great leg-freedom. The control elements for opening or closing the partition wall are integrated behind the cup holders. Two folding tables with leather inserts serve as writing pads or storage for tablets. In the style of the dashboard front, there is the “G-Cockpit” behind. There are the three buttons with which the interior lighting as well as the convertible top can be operated. Furthermore, there are two glove compartments in the G-Cockpit as well as the G-typical grips.
In the back, the passengers are sitting high. Very high even. The electrically fold-out footboard goes two steps upwards. It means: climbing aboard can be a chore. Heavy-load customers have to consider alternative options. The folding footboard can handle only 120 kilos. Make it aboard and it will be cuddly. The first-class style seats can be adjusted, ventilated and heated in all directions. Energizing is the name of the massage function, which the Mercedes-Wellness-developers have learned from the hot-stone massage.
The partition wall between the cockpit and the rear separates the working people behind the steering not only acoustically from the gentlemen behind, but also visually. The Thermo Cupholder keeps your champagne perfectly cooled or warmed up. Two 25.4 cm (10 inch) high-resolution media displays, which can be controlled separately via remote controls, provide entertainment when the electrically controllable convertible top is up. This is always a good idea when it rains. And when you’re in a hurry. Especially close to the electronically limited 180 km / h peak speed, the Landaulet is quite draughty.
Is there anything else? Oh, the price. 749,700 euros, including VAT. In real life, this accounts for a property and a top-class property. Or just the G-Class with first-class lounge in the back. After all, there are no features that are subject to discrepancy for the Maybach Landaulet. Everything in it, everything. Of course you can omit something. This reduces the weight, but not the price.
