Mercedes-Benz will open its second chapter in the GLA book next month, on the 11th of December. The new generation 2020 Mercedes GLA can now be seen in rather shadowy circumstances.
Just two days after Mercedes confirmed the launch date of the new GLA, we get to see the side view of the compact SUV in the latest official teaser. As befits a teaser, the image is rather dark and hardly revealing. We don’t get to see many details, but we do catch a glimpse of the lights on both the front and the back. These follow, as predicted, the design lines that we are used to from the brand. As an indication: take the lamps of the A-Class and add a pinch of GLB to them.
In addition to the teaser, Mercedes-Benz also released more data. With this they confirm previously surfaced information. The GLA promises to be more of an SUV, unlike its predecessor, which was more of an elevated hatchback. The height of the car therefore increases by 10 centimeters. Although the length shrinks by 1.5 centimeters, the passengers in the rear must be able to enjoy more legroom. Furthermore, the multimedia system will make more use of augmented reality. We will have to wait and see what that will look like in practice. The safety features, such as the Driving Assistance package, receive a major upgrade.
The Mercedes-Benz GLA will be available with 1.33-liter or 2.0-liter petrol engines. Output will range from 163 hp to 224 hp, while diesel fans will get the 2.0-liter unit available in 150 hp and 190 hp variants. Later, the new GLA will receive a plug-in hybrid version with 218 hp and and electric range of 69 kilometers, similar to the one already offered for the A-Class. Mercedes-AMG sports models will follow.
The new GLA will be presented to the public on December 11 at the Mercedes headquarters in Stuttgart, and the event is scheduled to begin at 3:00 pm. The world premiere will be a “fully digital” one. The market launch will follow early next year. Stay tuned!
