Jeremy Clarkson is a quitter. After all sorts of minimal but annoying electrical glitches, the famous TV presenter decided to give up and sell his equally famous Mercedes-Benz CLK 63 AMG Black Series.
Jezza has had its fair share of trouble with the limited edition CLK. In 2012, he tweeted that due to an electrical failure, the car simply refused to start and even the doors won’t open.
But it was more of a love and hate it relationship than pure hatred as Jeremy repeatedly declared the CLK is his favorite car. Quite a statement considering he also owns a couple of Aston Martins and an equally quirky Ford GT.
“Sad day. I just sold my AMG Black,” Jezza confessed on Twitter on June 1st. Former Top Gear host quickly addressed that it’s not a question of money trouble. And it’s probably not since he owned the car for a very long time and he probably simply felt the need for a change. Who knows? Perhaps his next Mercedes will be none other than the AMG GT junior supercar.
The CLK 63 AMG Black Series was built as an homage the 40th anniversary of AMG. Only 25 of them were imported to the UK in RHD. Jezza’s car only had 10,000 miles (about 16,000 kilometers) on its odometer, a small but significant detail which justifies the sale price of £90,000, only 10k less than its original cost.
Power came from a glorious 6.2-liter naturally aspirated V8, good for 507 bhp at 6,800 rpm. A seven speed automatic gearbox was the only barrier between the aforementioned arsenal and the rear wheels, with the 62mph mark hit in 4.3sec and the maximum speed rated at 186 mph (300 km/h).
