Well, it looks like Brabus isn’t at it alone. German tuner IMSA has come up with a power package for the Mercedes-Benz S63 AMG Coupe which takes the power output all the way to 720hp.

The new S-Class Coupe – even in its AMG guise – is more about refinement and elegance than outright sportiness. But refinement and elegance don’t necessarily exclude more power…  You can always chuckle a little at the thought of gaining more power from the engine, even while wearing the finest suit.

And the Mercedes-Benz S63 AMG Coupe modified by IMSA is wearing the same suit it came out of the factory with since the tuners didn’t touch the body of the car in any way. They only changed the wheels (or the shoes, if we’re to continue the fashion analogy), opting for their own 21 inch forged alloys wrapped in 255/35 R21 front and 295 /30 R21 rear tires.

The extra power comes from the same 5.5 litre turbocharged V8 engine which hasn’t suffered any mechanical interventions, but only a few software tweaks. In addition, it has received new sports air filters, modified x-cross central muffler for the exhaust, an improved intercooler radiator, better performance from the turbocharger and an improved airflow rate.

The result is an increase from the standard 585hp and 900 Nm (664 lb-ft) to 720hp and 1.080 Nm (796 lb-ft). There is no official data on the car’s performance but you can expect it to better the standard AMG’s time of 3.9 seconds for the 0-100 km/h sprint (0-62mph).

IMSA says that they will not stop here. Tuning packages for other Mercedes-Benz models will follow with the AMG models featuring more heavily than the rest. But the standard S-Class Coupe model will also receive a bump in its power output, along with a customized aerodynamic body kit. We’ll definitely be waiting.
