Good for 90 PS, the all-new 898 cc turbocharged three-cylinder, direct-injection petrol is clearly the sweet spot of the smart range. Even more so when coupled to the Getrag sourced double-clutch automatic gearbox featuring six ratios. Does this mean it is also the fastest?
Official figures suggest it can hit the 100 km/h mark in 10.7 seconds. Ok, that doesn’t sound like lightning fast but it is more than enough considering the car’s weight and especially its… size. In-gear performance is also pleasing for such a tiny, breezing little car, the 135 Nm of torque on offer coming without hesitation at the advertised 2.500rpm all the way up to 5.500 rpm.
Enough with the theory. Let’s see what the independent test carried out by Automann.tv has to say. According to our German colleagues, the Fortwo Turbo DCT reaches 100 km/h in 12.9 seconds. The video shows the top speed of 154 km/h (96 mph) is achieved in nearly 40 seconds.
