Mercedes-AMG is apparently working on its fastest A 45 hot hatch ever. Expected to be labelled A 45 Black Series, in the vein of its bigger brothers, the new A-Class variant has been spied for the first time.
The prototype immediately gives away its unique nature thanks to the super-wide fenders and new aerodynamic kit. This is clearly a special A 45, an edition meant to bid farewell to the current generation A-Class in style.
Also visible are the prototype’s wider tracks, a signal of better chassis tuning and stronger grip. All-wheel drive will most likely be standard with upgrades expected for both the suspension and engine.
Current displacement will remain the same at 2.0-litre, but power is likely to go up above today’s 381 hp, probably closer to the magic 400 figure. The 7G-Tronic seven speed gearbox will also be recalibrated for faster changing times.
The Black Series label is not yet confirmed. Mercedes could go also use the R badge, following in the footsteps of the recently unveiled Mercedes-AMG GT R supercar with 585 hp.
