Hot Mercedes-AMG GT 3 racer inspired street-legal version has been caught on video, testing around the famed Nurburgring race-track.

Targeted squarely at the Porsche 911 GT3, the more focused Mercedes-AMG GT car will be 80-100 lighter than its current siblings, the GT and the GT S. Exotic materials, like carbonfibre, will be essential in reducing the car’s weight.

“We need more power, less weight, better aero and different suspension, but the targets should be the power-to-weight ratio, driveability, lap time and tremendous feel”, AMG boss Tobias Moers has been quoted saying, also confirming the rumored output of approximately 550 HP extracted from AMG’s new twin-turbo 4.0-litre V8 engine for the GT3.

Considering the weight advantage, 550 HP or more should be enough for it to boast a 3.6 seconds 0-100 km/h run and 200 mph top speed.

The fenders are wider and the splitter on the front fascia looks massive compared to the regular model.  A beefy wing on the back and lower suspension will also be part of the uprated package.

The FIA GT3 racing version of the GT would be available from the 2016 season to replace the immensely successful SLS GT3, with the production car expected to reach showrooms around the same time frame.
