Hannu Mikkola drives the A45 AMG with one hand and a foot

Rally driving must be as common as riding a bike back in icy Finland. Think of legends like Marcus Gronholm, Tommi Makinen, Juha Kankkunen and dare to disagree with me. Now the Finns strike back with the craziest tutorial on film: how to drive the Mercedes-Benz A45 AMG with one hand and the left foot.

The nutty professor is none other than famed Hannu Mikkola. If the name doesn’t ring any bells, that is because you’d have to go back, way to back, to the 80’s. 1983 to be more precise. A time when he literally flied the Audi Quattro A1/A2 towards the title of the World Rally Car championship.

Tuulilasi YouTube channel invited Mikkola to a Myth Busters inspired challenge which set off to prove that normal drivers can be just as fast as a rally legend on a track made on top of… what else, a frozen lake.

Wait, the better part is yet to come. The pilot agreed to drive with his right hand tied up, using only his left foot. At least, the car chosen for this quite unusual challenge is definitely up to the job. We are talking about the ballistic Mercedes-Benz A45 AMG 4Matic. Yes, you read that right. All-wheel drive and 7-speed automatic gearbox seem fit for the task.
