Lewis Hamilton remains the best-paid pilot in the world, ahead of Sebastian Vettel, according to Forbes, who publishes every year his 100 of the athletes with the highest incomes.
The Mercedes driver is placed on the 13th position in this ranking, with revenues estimated at 55 million dollars (48.6 million euros). His salary is $ 45 million (39.8 million euros) and Hamilton receives an additional 10 million dollars (8.8 million euros) through partnerships.
Lewis Hamilton has won four of the last five F1 titles and is currently leading the championship. He is looking for a sixth crown after those won in 2008, 2014, 2015, 2016 and 2017, which would make him the second most successful driver in history, behind the seven crowned Michael Schumacher.
Sebastian Vettel is the second highest paid driver in the Formula 1 and the only other driver in the top 100. Forbes estimates his annual revenue at $ 40.3 million ($ 35.6 million), mostly thanks to his $ 40 million salary (35.6 million euros) at Ferrari. The quadruple world champion receives 300,000 dollars (265,100 euros) through partnerships. Three drivers have exited the top 100: Fernando Alonso, who left F1 after the 2018 season, and NASCAR drivers Jimmie Johnson and Dale Earnhardt Jr, who retired.
Lionel Messi is at the top of the ranking with revenues estimated at 127 million dollars (112.2 million euros). He is ahead of two other footballers, Cristiano Ronaldo and Neymar.
