Spoiler! The new generation of Mercedes SL should mark a big break compared to the last generation of the model. And now the Carscoops spy photographers managed to surprise it for the very first time with its definitive bodywork.

Mercedes-Benz is the largest convertible manufacturer in the world in terms of the number of models in the range: C-Class Cabriolet, E-Class Cabriolet, S-Class Cabriolet, AMG GT Roadster … adding the SL, we arrived at the incredible figure of five different convertibles within the range. No other manufacturer in the world does this.

And if the small SLC will not be replaced, the large SL will give way to a whole new generation which should arrive before the end of the current year.

A four seater?
The images published by Carscoops do not show everything but testify to the big philosophical differences compared to the previous version.

The rear three-quarter is obviously very much inspired by the Mercedes-AMG GT supercar. Also, it could be that the all-new Mercedes SL reverts to a 2 + 2 type interior configuration instead of the two seater format of the previous generation. The 2+2 configuration is possible because the next SL will return to the softtop which create more space while save a lot of weight and lower the gravity center.

Because the  luxury roadster market is dramatically decreasing, Mercedes-Benz try to reduce costs and find some synergies. For this reason, the all-new Mercedes SL will be built on the same aluminum Modular Sports Architecture (MSA) with the next AMG GT sports car.

Two engines are expected from AMG: the new 3 liter 6 inline with 435 HP and the 4 liter V8 with 571/612 HP, both with 48V network and 22 HP electric motor in a mild hybrid constrcution.
The V12 is out of ptoduction due to the new emission rules.
