What probably seemed like a ludicrous idea at first turned out as a quite unexpectedly Mercedes drag race viral video on youtube. GLA 45 AMG tries to beat its bigger, badder S 65 AMG Coupe brother in a typically American straight line drag race. Can it win?
Chances are slim in fact. The little GLA puts out 360 HP and 450 Nm courtesy of an turbocharged 2.0-litre inline-four while the S 65 AMG Coupe is graced by an infinitely more glorious V12 powerhouse, good for exactly 630 HP and 1.000 Nm. Even considering the weight advantage, 1.5 tons versus 2.2 tons, the GLA is still seriously out-performed. On paper at least. The 100 km/h mark is hit in 4.8 seconds as opposed to 4,1 seconds in the S-Class’ case.
Let’s got carried away too fast, though. The GLA does hide a significant trick up its sleeve, all wheel drive, the mighty S 65 AMG being rear-wheel drive only, of course. Another advantage for the GLA 45 AMG is the fact that is comes with a Launch Control system.
But, enough with cold, hard data. We let you discover for yourself the final outcome of techonology versus physics. Will the GLA 45 AMG outrun its brother? Watch the video to find out.
