Mercedes-AMG already offers both the GT Coupé and Roadster in various power variants, but there is a version that the GT enthusiast still has to wait for: the Black Series. It is that ultimate top version of the Mercedes-AMG GT family that has now turned up in a camouflage trim.
Anyone in the market for a Mercedes-AMG GT will undoubtedly need a moment to figure out which version he or she would prefer to park in front of the door. Both the Coupé and the Roadster are offered in four variants, with the 476 horsepower version of the bi-turbo 4.0-liter V8 being the least powerful of the bunch.
If you don’t want that basic version, you can opt for the 522 hp GT S and 557 hp GT C versions. The provisional top version is the GT R, a fierce variant with a 585 hp version of the eight-cylinder in its long nose. Now, the Mercedes-AMG GT R and the limited GT R Pro stuffed with technology from the GT3 and GT4 racing cars will soon bow to this AMG GT ‘Black Series’.
Over the years we have seen several Black Series models from Mercedes’ AMG department. Cars like the SLK 55 AMG, CLK 63 AMG, SL 65 AMG, C63 AMG and SLS AMG were once topped with the now illustrious AMG sauce. This Black Series variant of the Mercedes-AMG GT has, just like its GT brothers, a 4.0 V8 equipped with two turbos under the hood, but in this top version the eight-cylinder probably delivers a power of over 650-700 hp.
Also visible in the spy pics: at the back of the Mercedes-AMG GT Black Series, Affalterbach mounts an immense rear wing, a solid one that does not sink into the body at low speeds. The bonnet is equipped with additional cooling slots and the body of the car is provided with aerodynamic flaps, splitters and edges. The whole is undoubtedly fully prepared to generate sufficient cooling and downward pressure to properly bring the power to the road. Count on a car that is set even harder than the already racy AMG GT R Pro.
