The BMW X7 is real and we have the pictures to prove it. Today, AutoWeek.nl presents us the first spy photographs revealing the Mercedes GLS and Range Rover rival.
The arrival of a possible SUV placed above the X5 in the BMW line-up has been speculated for years. Occasional rumors about the possible arrival of the X7, the big brother to BMW’s X5, can now be put to rest. The Bavarian Goliath will come in 2018.
In terms of styling, BMW does not seem to make earth-shaking changes compared to the X5. The X7 seems to be in every way an oversized X5. But where the latter has to measure forces with cars like the Mercedes-Benz GLE and the Audi Q7, the future X7 will compete with the Land Rover Range Rover and Mercedes-Benz GLS.
If we look even more up the ladder, then we can see the X7 also compete with the smaller but more expensive Bentley Bentayga. Rolls-Royce also prepares its own SUV, under the name Project Cullinan. That SUV will indeed be firmly related to the brand new X7 with which it shares its modular platform (OKL), lifted from the new 7-series. Just like the Mercedes GLS, the X7 will offer seven-seats and a luxurious interior.
The engine range of the BMW X7 will also be similar to that of the 7-series, consisting of six, eight and twelve cylinders, while the Rolls-Royce will more likely stay true to the traditional V12 format.
