Apple and Mercedes-Benz sealed a deal that makes the premium carmaker the first company outside Apple to get the tech giant’s features. The partnership, which also includes Universal Music Group (UMG), will bring a new sound experience and new music content.

The three come up with the proposal of a new era of in-car entertainment. The Burmester high-end 3D and 4D sound system will spice up with the Dolby Atmos immersive audio in all cars that feature the latest-gen MBUX. The Burmester high-end 4D sound system was already bringing the experience of a concert hall in the three-pointed-star-badged models. The system includes 31 speakers, with six of them being 3D speakers that emit sound from above. Four of them are near-ear speakers in the front seats. An 18.5-liter subwoofer, eight sound transducers (two per seat) and two amplifiers make up the 1750-Watt system.

It is the first time that a non-Apple device gets native integration of Spatial Audio with Dolby Atmos from Apple Music. Thus the occupants of a Mercedes-Benz car can enjoy the tracks “Approved in a Mercedes-Benz.” Apple Music holds an add-free catalog of over 90 million songs, interviews, and conversations, and broadcasts global premieres via Apple Music Radio.

With now being not just a means of transportation, but also music devices, over 70% of music consumers listen to their favorite tracks in the car. Furthermore, 72%% of drivers claim they can’t even come close to imagining driving without music.
