Another 2017 Mercedes GLC Coupe video has surfaced online, courtesy of our regular spy camera man Walko. The camouflage is running thinner and thinner ahead of the official debut scheduled for January’s Detroit motor show NAIAS.
This is the smaller brother of the GLE Coupe and essentially the production version of the similarly called concept revealed at this year’s Shanghai motor show. The main focus of the GLC Coupe is its design and from the side, at least, there’s no mistaking the GLC Coupe for anything other than a fully-fledged SUV coupe.
The elongated roof flows seamlessly towards the beautifully sculptured back while the front end gives the first taste for the sporty, muscular philosophy that characterizes the whole car: short overhang, upright radiator grille and a twin-blade louvre which wraps around the three point star logo. The tail-light design apes the S-Class Coupe with its two LED upper strips that act as turn indicators.
Mercedes-Benz GLC Coupe will share both its platform and its engine line-up with its GLC regular SUV sibling and the entire C-Class family. Four and six cylinder diesel and gasoline units are all earmarked to make an appearance under the new model’s bonnet while a plug-in hybrid version is also set to be available right from the start. We’re talking about the same powertrain used by the C-Class’ eco version. A 2-liter turbo good for 211 HP will be matted to a 60 kw electric engine. The maximum range in EV Mode with zero emissions is estimated at 30 km.
Commercial debut is slated for early next year with an official unveiling expected to take place at the January NAIAS Detroit motor show.
