2019 Mercedes GLA is coming next year and will be much sportier and roomier than the current generation. First spy video courtesy of the WalkoArt channel on youtube.

Introduced in March 2014, the GLA already gets a successor. In the new edition, everything changes. The slightly larger proportions and wheelbase create measurably more space for heads and legs. The lower profile of the body, close to the A-Class compact, will be retained, though, as will be the upright ride height. In 2020, the GLA will also be joined by a larger, seven seat SUV with a straighter roofline and a steeper rear, expected to be wear the GLB moniker.

This model is based on the second generation of the MFA front-wheel drive architecture that grows with various which brings a higher body rigidity, a weight loss, better aerodynamics and a lower noise level. Changes include two different rear suspensions (torsion beam and multilink), adjustable damper control, a more efficient nine-speed dual-clutch gearbox and a new touch screen user interface with dual 10,2-inch displays and the latest MBUX infotainment system.

The power spectrum remains broadly the same. While the entry-level diesel with 122 hp will cater to frugality, the uprated AMG power plant in the GLA 45 AMG will offer 408 hp. The range will include the following variants: GLA 200 powered by a 1.33-liter Renault sourced three cylinder turbo with 163 horsepower, the GLA 250 matted to a 2.0-liter four cylinder turbo expected to develop 224 hp and the base GLA 180d 1.5-liter diesel, again from Renault, good for 116 hp.

Also firmly planned is a plug-in hybrid block rated at 80 kW / 109 hp. Even more economical will be the new four-cylinder gasoline engine (Series M 264) which benefits from the mild hybrid combination of an integrated starter generator (ISG) and small electric engine.

In addition, the next GLA may hope for another career: it comes as an all-electric version in 2020. The batteries disappear under the floor and thanks to a range of around 400 kilometers Mercedes wants to rival the Tesla Model III.
