Mercedes launches the next Sprinter generation in 2018. Testing prototypes of the 2018 Mercedes Sprinter have already been seen driving around the US and Europe. Now Mercedes gives us an official look at the new van.
With the coming model change of the Mercedes Sprinter, the cooperation with VW will end. The rival company has already developed its own new Crafter transporter, which will be assembled together with a MAN sister model in Poland.
As part of the first North American Commercial Vehicle Show (NACV), Mercedes is now unveiling a first design sketch and releases first information regarding the Sprinter, which will be launched in the first half of 2018.
Sprinter, important for the US market
In the future, Mercedes will also build the Sprinter in a new US plant in North Charleston, South Carolina, to circumvent the high import duties, and because the USA is the second largest single sales market for the big van. So far, the Mercedes Sprinter is delivered as a CKD “kit” to the USA. In Germany, next to the Düsseldorf plant, the transporter plant near Berlin will also produce the new generation.
Innovations include new driving assistance systems and connectivity services in combination with a new telematics system. They should ensure efficiency in the vehicle and fleet management, says Mercedes. “In addition, the new Sprinter is even more precisely adapted to individual transport and industry requirements thanks to a significantly expanded variety of body and weight variants”.
