Volkswagen CEO Martin Winterkorn is famous for closely examining its competitors’ latest offerings. At Detroit, it was the Mercedes-Benz F 015 Luxury in Motion Concept’s turn.
Winterkon has been photographed sitting inside the newest prototype of the three-pointed star. And he wasn’t alone. Alongside the man in charge of Audi’s parent company was none other than Mercedes development chief Dr. Thomas Weber, who seemed more than willing to present all the glitzy new features to his industry colleague. Their lively chat went on for a few minutes, with the lounge-like cabin of the F 015 Luxury in Motion Concept certainly leaving a big impression.
Volkswagen CEO expressed his interest in the entire philosophy behind the research vehicle – the continuous exchange of information between vehicles, passengers and the outside world, a mission so gracefully accomplished via the six displays adorning the cabin of the F 015 Luxury in Motion Concept. Passengers can interact with the vehicle using hand gestures, eye-tracking or the traditional touchscreens.
The prototype is a plug-in hydrogen fuel cell electric car offering a range of 1,100 km. The hydrogen used for generating electricity is carefully stored in 5.4 kg tanks at a 700 bar pressure. Power is delivered from two electric motors installed in the rear, each offering an output of 100 kW and 199 Nm. These resources are sent to the rear axle and stand for a total output of 200 kW and 398 Nm.
