Mercedes GLB: On the basis of the next generation of the A-Class, Mercedes is planning a compact SUV, which will focus on families. The car will come to the market in 2018. FIRST SPY PICS via auto-motor-und-sport.de.
For a long time Mercedes had a plan to launch a long wheelbase seven-seat B-Class to meet the demands of families. But then a family SUV was favored. The Mercedes GLB is set to be built on the platform of the next A-Class. Now a first mule prototype was caught by Auto Motor und Sport. What looks like a GLA is a first test bank vehicle for the new SUV.
With a length of 4.60 meters, the Mercedes GLB should not only offer a lot of space, but also a trunk volume of around 500 liters. There is even a version with three rows of seats and seven seats. Visually, the GLB is quite angular and closely resembles the legendary G model, albeit in a modern look.
The new GLB is to be powered by turbo four-cylinder engines (diesel and petrol engines) from the cooperation with Renault-Nissan, which have displacement capacities of 1.4 to 1.8 liters. The range will be completed by Mercedes’ own 2-liter four-cylinder diesel and turbo petrol engines.
The target price of around 30,000 euros is also worth mentioning. This is clearly below the prices of E- and C-Class T-Modell as well as the GLC, which are also suitable for families.
