Daimler, the parent company of Mercedes-Benz, is expanding its dealer network in China. The official announcement has been made on eve of the auto show in Shanghai.
The Germans are trying to fully benefit from the growth of the largest automobile market in the world.
According to the official plan, Daimler will open a new dealership in China every week, until the end of the year. As a result, by 2016 no less than five hundred new showrooms will be ready to receive their clients.
The aggressive expansion of its Chinese dealership will allow Mercedes to have a better chance in competing better with BMW and Audi. The weaker position in China undermines Mercedes efforts to narrow the gap with its arch-rivals on a global scale.
The short-therm sales target aims for more than 300,000 cars in China this year. Two-thirds of these cars are expected to be build locally.
In the first quarter of this year, sales of Mercedes in China went up by 18 percent. Mercedes started the assembly of the GLA at its factory in Beijing, in addition to the E- and C-Class and the GLK.
