Mercedes sales continue to set new records with double-digit growth in August. Daimler’s passenger car division has delivered 139,082 cars, a 17.6% increase compared to the same period last year.

This was the 30th consecutive month to mark a significant rise in Mercedes fortunes. Things look even rosier if we put into perspective total sales achieved by the Germans with more than 1,187,980 customers having received their new cars since the beginning of the year (+15.1%).

Key to this success has been the demand for Mercedes-Benz compact cars, augmented by 35.2% and more than 300% in China alone. Mercedes shifted 44,648 units from the A-Class, B-Class, CLA and GLA model lines.

C-Class’ also remained stronger than ever. No less than 35,555 customers have received the keys to their sedan or T-Modell last month, some 81.3% more than a year ago. The S-Class is still king in the luxury segment, while Mercedes SUVs enjoyed a 24.1% sales surge to 40,420 units. Top-seller among SUVs is the GLA, on the eve of the commercial debut for both the new GLE and GLC.

Europe continues to be the biggest market for Mercedes-Benz. Here, the German brand have delivered 507,772 cars since the beginning of 2015. Germany accounted for 177,606 units, 21,037 of which were handed over to customers only last month (+4,9%). Impressive growth rates have been recorded in Portugal (+47.7%), the Netherlands (+31.3%) and Spain (+28,9%).

In Asia-Pacific, a total of 51,307 Mercedes cars were sold last month. This translates to a whopping 34% increase, a new record for the region. China alone has absorbed 32,763 vehicles in August, some 53.1% more than last August. Austrlia and India are also in the ink with sales increases of 28.3% and 18.9%, respectively.

USA is still the biggest market in the NAFTA region, accounting for 28,373 units from the 32,597 total. The growth rate here is less aggressive than in the Asia-Pacific markets, at 4,8%. Demand was particularly strong in Canada, where unit sales have risen by 30.5%.
