If Godzilla ever got married this is what its car would look like. The SPORTSMOBILE Mercedes Sprinter 4×4 Camper is an American tuned extreme-Camper, ready to tackle the most difficult roads in the world.
The series Mercedes Sprinter 4×4 is already a very capable machine. But Sportsmobile thinks it can do better. The Americans lifted the chassis of the Mercedes Sprinter 4×4 and mounted heavy MT tires. As a result, the Sportsmobile Sprinter 4×4 sits eight centimeters higher at the front and eleven centimeters at the back compared to the production vehicle. The ground clearance is increased accordingly and the ramp angle is improved by 20 percent.
Engine-wise the Sportsmobile Sprinter 4×4 relies on the most powerful version of the three-liter V6 diesel engine, good for 190 hp. The front-biased 4×4 system has a standard 65:35% front to rear torque split and comes with a (mild) reduction support (factor 1.4: 1). Sportsmobile also offers the Sprinter 4×4 Camper in two wheelbase versions of 3,665 and 4,325 millimeters.
The first conversion, already available on order, uses the short wheelbase and comes with comfort creatures familiar to camper fans. The leather seat fold down and transform into a double bed, a compact kitchenette with a stove, sink, refrigerator and microwave oven are ready to put your chef talents to good work. A side stair is also standard.
An important detail of Sportsmobile Mercedes Sprinter 4×4 Camper is the extendable lifting roof, which significantly increases the interior headroom. It opens over nearly the entire length of the roof and holds two more beds. A roof rack is fitted for additional loads together with two large solar panels which can secure the power supply for the daily cooking activities.
For the more adventurous, Sportsmobile also offers for the 4×4 Sprinter an intake snorkel. The wading depth increases accordingly, while this can be combined with an attached cyclone filter for the intake air pre-filters, which can be useful on dusty tracks. The Adventure look is supported by a large LED light strip.
Prices for the conversion has not been announced by American tuner Sportsmobile.
