The Mercedes-Benz GL giant has always been a show-stopper. And what happened in Hanoi, Vietnam, stands to prove it. A GL450 caught fire in the old quarter of the Vietnamese capital.

Eye-witnesses claim that the black Mercedes-Benz GL450 was rolling at normal speed in an intersection of the old quartier of the second biggest city in Vietnam. The driver suddenly stopped the car when he saw smoke coming out from under his hood. Seconds later, fire broke from the engine compartment.

The driver and the passengers stepped out of the car and were in no danger. Many people though gathered around to watch the show of the Benz in flames. Before the fire-fighters arrived at the scene, the people had managed to put out the fire with water and extinguishers. Luckily, it didn’t spread to the stores in the area.

The fire cause is yet unknown, but it seems that the driver admitted to have put his car through a tuning procedure.

The standard GL450 is powered by a 4.6-liter V8 engine, developing 388 HP and 530 Nm of torque. In Vietnam, the car costs around 4 million dongs, so the driver saw a fortune going down the drain in an instant. Hopefully he had a car insurance.
