As the all-new Audi Q7 is getting nearer to its debut, likely to take place during the 2015 Detroit Auto Show, we have the clearest photos yet of the SUV and the all-new full-LED Matrix headlights.

The prototypes we’ve been able to show you so far all came with Xenon projectors, which will be the standard setup for the new Q7. However, for around 2,000 euro more, customers will be able to opt for the more technologically advanced Matrix LED system.

This system made its debut last year on the A8 facelift and soon after was also added on the A6 and A7 model range, including the S and RS models. The system uses many separate diodes that can be individually controlled in order to maximize visibility without blinding oncoming traffic.

Our spy photos suggest the setup on the Q7 is a little different to the one on the sedan models. There’s only one lens for the low beams and three for the high beam, separated by a vertical line of lights from the DRL system.

We also get a very clear glimpse of the rest of this SUV’s design language. It’s evident that some of the current Q7’s bulkiness has been mixed in with the next version of Audi’s design language. The highlight of this will be a new radiator grille, easily recognized as a hexagon and connected to the headlights in order to create a strong front end look.

The Q7 continues to be a massive vehicle, imposing both on the road and off it. But Audi promise a 300 kg lower weight due to use of the new MLB-Evo platform  developed by Audi for all models from VW Group with longitudinal mounted engines and front wheel or 4 wheel drive traction.

The engines available should be carried over from the A7 and A8, including three 3.0 TDI diesels with outputs varying from 218 to 320 PS. A sport model is also planned, powered by either a 4-litre twin-turbo V8 or the “tri-turbo” TDI system from the RS5 Concept, which would make this a match for the BMW X5 M50d. The rumours speaks about a 408 HP maximum output for the tri-turbo diesel. However, this won’t be available at launch and neither will the Q7 e-tron plug-in hybrid which is also in plan for the future.
