Mercedes will reveal the next generation of the Sprinter on February 6, in Duisburg, Germany. The first official teaser has been published on Twitter, following the last month presentation of the fresh cockpit.

The upcoming model change of the Mercedes Sprinter ends the cooperation between the Stuttgart company and VW, which is already producing the new, self-developed Crafter. The current Sprinter W 906 series made its debut in 2006 and received an extensive facelift in 2013.

Recently there was also an update with the new 5.5-ton variant and Euro 6 engines. From 2019, the Sprinter will be offered with pure electric drive too.

The upcoming successor of the Mercedes Sprinter will evolve in a similarly mild form as with the last major model change and remain unmistakably a Sprinter.

New Mercedes-Benz Sprinter interior revealed: Big van, big screen

The new design is clear: the face will be loosely inspired by the V-Class, with flatter headlamps that are pulled further back. The bonnet is similar to the current version, the front apron, however, is new. Other new features include new driver assistance systems and connectivity services in combination with new telematics, intended to ensure a leap in efficiency for vehicle and fleet management.

Mercedes will build the Sprinter in a new US plant in North Charleston, South Carolina in the future, to avoid the high import taxes and because the US meanwhile is the second largest single market for the big van. So far the Mercedes Sprinter is delivered as CKD “kit” in the USA. In Germany, not only the Düsseldorf plant but also the van plant near Berlin will produce the new generation.
