Up against the Bentley Continental GT Speed, Mercedes launches the most powerful S-Class Coupe, powered by the new V12 which develops 630 HP and an incredible maximum torque of 1,000 Nm.

No other car manufacturer in the world offers such wide portfolio of V12 models as Mercedes AMG. The new S 65 AMG Coupe completes a prestigious list made by other three members: SL 65 AMG, G 65 AMG and S 65 AMG. The new S 65 AMG Coupe is the natural successor of the CL 65 AMG (code name C 215, launch 2003) and the CL 65 AMG (code name C 216, launch 2007).

The AMG V12 delivers 630 HP and 1000 Nm (6 HP less than the Continental GT Speed, but 180 Nm more) and accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in only 4.1 seconds (4.2 sec for GT Speed), meanwhile the maximum speed is electronically limited to 250 km/h. Fuel consumption is unbelievably low for such level of power: only 11.9 l/100 km (279 g/km CO2) in NEDC cycle, which means 2,5 l/100 km less than other competitors like Bentley and it complies the EU6 emission standard.
The new bi-turbo V12 engine has bi-turbocharging, an aluminium crankcase, forged crankshaft from high grade alloy steel, start/stop function, and air/water intercooler. The cover of the engine is also impressive, featuring a unique combination of carbon fiber and aluminium.

For the first time, the V12 of the Mercedes is combined with the AMG Speedshift Plus 7G-Tronic

For the first time, the V12 engine is combined with the AMG Speedshift Plus 7G-Tronic, which delivers the torque to the rear axle. Three modes are available for the drive train: Controlled Efficiency (C), Sport (S) and Manual (M) by pushing a button on the centre console. Sport and Manual deliver more dynamism, while in the C mode start/stop function is activated. These modes also alter the response of the speed sensitive sports steering with variable steering ratio. In the Comfort mode, the steering has more assistance, while in the Sport mode, the driver feels a more sporty stiff level of steering assistance.

The Active Body Control with Road Surface Scan and curve tilting function is standard

The S 65 AMG Coupe features AMG Sport suspension, which offers a unique combination between the Active Body Control, Road Surface Scan and curve tilting function, which makes its debut in the S 63 AMG Coupe and the S 65 AMG Coupe. As in the S 63 AMG Coupe, the S 65 AMG Coupe features a lithium-ion battery as standard, which replaces both the starter battery and the backup battery resulting a weight saving of over 20 kg. The AMG high-performance composite brake system with grey finish brake callipers (red callipers in option) is 20% lighter and as option is available a ceramic high-performance composite brake. The S 65 AMG Coupe uses forged 20-inch wheels (8.5 x 20 at the front and 9.5 x 20 at the rear) with 16 spokes and with 255/40 R 20 and 285/35 R 20 tyres. To remind the centre lock from motorsport, forged wheels feature a screw-on fully integrated bolt cover in forged aluminium.

From the outside, the front part of the S 65 AMG is personalized and clearly differentiated from the S 500 by the twin blade radiator grille which supports the Mercedes star, while all of the air intake grills, air deflector elements and front splitter are chrome trimmed. On the side, the V12 BITURBO lettering on the wings and the high-sheen chrome inserts in the side skirts announce the top model of the S-Class family. The rear view strikes with two chromed rectangular twin tailpipes instead of only one, as in the case of the S 500.

The 77.500 euro price increase in comparison with the S 63 AMG Coupe is fully covered by the rich and complete standard equipment

At a price of 244.010 euro in Germany, with the 19% German VAT included, the S 65 AMG Coupe is by 77.500 euro more expensive than the already very performing 585 HP S 63 AMG Coupe. For this difference, which represents a small fortune, Mercedes offers a very complete and rich standard equipment. You not only get the finest materials and the highest manufacturing quality, but also exclusively developed AMG sport seats with electric adjustment, memory function, seat heating and climate control as standard plus AMG logo on all four backrests. Upholstery in AMG Exclusive Nappa leather also covers the roof liner and the dashboard. The new three spoke steering wheel features shift paddles and is trimmed with perforated leather in the grip area. Head-up display and touchpad are also standard. By comparison with the S 500 Coupe head-up display, the S 65 AMG Coupe head-up display features additional information like engine speed and the current gear. In the Manual mode, a coloured upshift bar and the possible gears for a manual gear change are also protected onto the windscreen.

Speedometer, rev counter and other information appear on two animated round dials on the 31.2 cm (12.3 inch) high-resolution colour TFT display. Specific to AMG are the needles in red/silver, the speedometer which goes up to 360 km/h and the V12 BITURBO lettering in the rev counter. The list of standard equipment is completed by the Burmester high-end 3D Surround sound system, 360 grade camera, Driving Assistance Package Plus including Distronic Plus with Steering Assist, Pre-Safe Brake, Bas Plus with Cross-Traffic Assist, Active Blind Spot Assist, Active Lane Keeping Assist and Pre-Safe Plus, Keyless-Go package and Comfort package for driver and front passenger.
Like all other versions of the S-Class Coupe, market launch will take place by the end of September.
